MAC Lipsticks: Kinda Sexy & Lady Danger

I'm pretty much an organization freak. I truly believe I have a mild case of OCD because if I see something unorganized or a mess, I get really agitated. Ever since I started putting my eyeshadows in palette's I've never looked back. MAC has this awesome program where if you return 6 empty cases of anything MAC, you can get a new lipstick or eyeshadow for free. I've gotten numerous eyeshadows because of this program and while I was cleaning today I realized I have 12 empty cases I completely forgot about. Rushed to the store today and got these two babies:
MAC Kinda Sexy | MAC Lady Dangerous
When i first saw swatches online for MAC Kinda Sexy I wondered if it was a mix between my two favorite nudes: MAC Angel & MAC Honeylove.
MAC Angel | MAC Honeylove | MAC Angel+MAC Honeylove | MAC Kinda Sexy
As you can see, Kinda Sexy is a bit darker and on the beige/browner side. Looking at my lips it also has some peach tones in it. I was little bit sad that it hadn't been a complete dupe of my two favorites but on the bright side, I can conclude that I have 4 new favorite nude lipsticks! :D
(w/ MAC prolong wear concealer to cancel out color on lips & MAC subculture lipliner)
This lipstick is absolutely beautiful for a dark smokey eye! I wasn't able to put a smokey eye on for the picture but for sure next blog post! It is such a pretty color!

Other than Kinda Sexy, I purchased Lady Danger since of course, it was bright/coral. Makeup addicts in general have been raving about this lipstick and I can't believe I just picked this up for the first time! Here are the swatches compared to my other bright coral lipsticks:
MAC Lady Danger | Sula Beauty Awake Till Sunrise | MAC Morange
It seems like orange gets more and more prominent as the lipsticks go from left to right. Lady Danger looks like fire from within, the kind you see while sitting in a circle singing kumbaya. It's dominantly red with orange undertones. Such a beautiful color as well! :D
(w/ MAC prolong wear concealer to cancel out color on lips & MAC cherry lipliner)
Both of these lipsticks are matte formula, and I've never had a problem with them... but others may. To keep your lips hydrated just add a touch of chapstick/lip balm and if they are flaky, brush your lips softly with a toothbrush to make it smooth. :)

On another note, I've been reading reviews about MAC strobe cream so I got a few samples from different MAC stores. I'm wearing it on my face in the pictures above and I feel like its making my skin look a bit more radiant and less dull. Nonetheless, it's still my first time trying it so I'm going to keep putting it on my face for a couple weeks to really experience the effect.

Have you ever tried any of these lipsticks? Any great dupes that I should know about? Also, any of you tried MAC strobe cream? I'd love to hear reviews!

Till Next Time! :)

Sula Beauty Lipstick in Awake Til Sunrise

Had some free time on my hands this past week so I went to Ulta to check out some makeup (as usual). I didn't have a specific item on my mind... I just wanted to browse around. Let me tell you, browsing around = DANGEROUS. I'm not going into detail how much I spent but my most awesome find has got to be this lipstick from a random brand I've never heard before called Sula Beauty.
Awake Till Sunrise can be described as a vibrant orange with red undertones. If you know me, I'm a sucker for anything bright & coral... and this lipstick completely satisfies my needs. :P It doesn't contain any shimmer and is surprisingly very opaque. One swipe of it on your lips gives a very vibrant sheen & it is very moisturizing on the lips considering it is matte. Wear time is about 4-5 hours & I picked this baby up for only $8. Suffice to say, I'm super duper happy with this purchase!
(BTW, sorry for the blurry picture... could not get my damn camera to focus!)

MAC Morange|Sula Awake Till Sunrise|Revlon Kiss Me Coral
Compared to the two other lipstick swatches, Awake Till Sunrise has more red undertones than Mac Morange, while Kiss Me Coral has more of a burnt undertone to it & is a little bit more demure. Morange is a true orange compared to the other two & Awake Till Sunrise seems to be the most opaque of the three (all three are swiped 3 times on my arm).

If you're ever in Ulta just perusing around, don't forget to check out this lipstick from Sula Beauty! :)

Till Next Time! :)

Purple Haze | Makeup Play

I shit you not, I spent more time getting ready today than I spent outside. Dinner was only about 30 minutes, and I hardly saw anyone but it was all worth it... because getting ready is always half the fun. ;) I wanted to use some of the eyeshadows that I purchased recently and coincidentally it became Laker colors. When I saw myself in the mirror I immediately thought of that song "purp & yellow..purp & yellow...purp & yellow..." I hate that song, by the way.

(SORT OF) Boiling Crab Recipe | Sometimes Jowee Cooks

Yep, I'm obsessed with Boiling Crab's whole shabang. I've tried all these restaurants that try to copy it but to no avail. The cajun/spices just gets me every single time and I can never get tired of it! One of my best friends is what you would call "A Jack of All Trades." The first time she tried boiling crab she was a goner just like I was, but because of her awesomeness she was able to make a recipe of it from taste alone. So everyone please thank my best friend DUDAY for this wonderful wonderful recipe! NOM NOM NOM
INGREDIENTS
Shrimp
Unsalted Butter (1lb of shrimp = 1 stick of butter)
Creole Seasoning
Garlic
Onions (chopped)
Paprika
Chili powder
Cayenne
Lime
Potatoes, Sausages, Corn (not necessary)
DIRECTIONS
Now this is where it becomes a (sort of) recipe. A lot of mixes were done by taste and I don't exactly have a specific amount (tbsp/tsp) of spices that you should put. All I know FOR SURE that to add heat (make it mild, medium or hot) is the amount of CAYENNE that you put -- so add that ingredient LAST.

Steam shrimp. If you want potatoes, cut the potatoes in cubes and have it boil in hot water for 10 minutes or until soft. While doing that combine the butter (melted - remember the more butter you put, the more soup there is) and all the other ingredients except lime. Mix everything according to taste, put as much garlic as you please, and the amount of spice is truly dependent on the cayenne. Once it is a liking to your taste, combine with your steamed shrimp. Mix together and heat up for 10-15 minutes so the mix & shrimp will satiate. Add limes for taste.

Voila! Your very own (easy/sort of) Boiling Crab! :) Let me know if you try this recipe!

Till Next Time! :)

Revlon Lipsticks in Berry Haute & Kiss Me Coral

My range of lipsticks just keep getting bigger and bigger. I seriously have to re-organize my makeup stash because it's growing exponentially. Anyway, there's something about Target that people find to be some sort of black hole (in a good way) because you always go there to get one thing and you come out with 10 different things. Hence, my lippie purchases today.
Revlon Berry Haute | Revlon Kiss Me Coral
These revlon lipsticks are very creamy, smooth, pigmented & lasts me about 4 hours wear time. It does take a couple swipes on the lipstick to get opaque but nonetheless it's very moisturizing on the lips.
This color (along with the other one I purchased) are not for the faint hearted. This color is matte and reminds me of lilac's in full bloom, so purple lovers rejoice! It is widely received as a dupe for MAC's Up the Amp. This lipstick has blue undertones, so it makes your teeth look whiter. This lipstick goes well with a neutral look, allowing your lips to be the focal point.
Let me tell you, I love me a good coral! Coral is universally flattering but it is absolutely wonderful with olive/warm skin tones. This is a vivacious red/orange based coral and it wears warm on my lips. Just like the previous lipstick this is a matte shade (despite it looking like there's glitters on the pictures) and is very creamy and hydrating. I can imagine this color being very great for anything pin-up, and if you're looking for a 50's look this would work as well. love love love!!

These lipsticks were around $5.49 at the local target -- so if you're looking for some great lippies with a great price, GO now!!! :)

Till Next Time! :)

Small MAC Pigment Haul + Bright Lip Mix of the Day

Every paycheck I get really excited when more money is in my bank then it suddenly slips away from all the shopping. The MF (manfriend) thinks I have a major problem, and I'm starting to believe that I really do :p Is anyone else in this situation? Anyway, to satisfy my spending problem I recently made 4 online purchases (3 make-up & 1 clothing). The first package came today and it was my small haul of sample MAC & Ben Nye pigments! :)
I purchased 5 MAC & 2 Ben Nye pigment samples. Samples are usually a great way to try different products, especially pigments since a full jar goes around $20. The site that I purchased these samples from are $3.99 each, and according to their website "1/4 teaspoon of authentic MAC pigment in clear, screw-top jar with printed label."
It doesn't look like much but you only need a dab from the brush for every eyeshadow application. The colors are extremely vibrant and can be applied either wet or dry. If you're a little bit vexed by the meaning of "wet," it is the term called "foiling" where you wet your brush first with a mixing medium (water/ MAC fix +/ eyedrops) before you touch the eyeshadow. It allows your eyeshadows to be much more pigmented and vibrant.
Pigments are on top of  MAC painterly paint pot (eyeshadow primer)

Description of colors, clockwise (from first picture) & left to right (same order)
MAC Pigment Golden Olive
MAC Pigment Blue Brown
MAC Pigment Old Gold
Ben Nye Peacock
MAC Pigment Platinum
MAC Pigment Antique Green
Ben Nye Pigment Royal Purple
Also, we had a family reunion yesterday and I randomly came up with this lovely concoction from these two lip tars:
OCC Lip Tars in NSFW & Grandma
Mix: 1 drop NSFW & 2 drops Grandma = perfect daytime pink!

6 Hours Later... | Makeup Play

Going to start something where I take pictures of my makeup x amount of  hours later after being put on... showing what stayed put, what went wrong & what smudged throughout the day. Went to my cousin Jenna's wedding today (yay! i'm finally not sick anymore!) & this was the make-up that was put on at 10AM and taken at 4PM:

Brief description of my makeup:

FACE
ELF eyebrow set Medium
MAC Prolong Wear Foundation NC30
Hard Candy Glamouflage Medium (concealer)
MAC Prolong Wear Concealer NW25
Mac Studio Careblend Medium Plus
EYES
MAC Painterly Paint Pot (all over eye)
Urban Decay Naked Palette (entire eye)
MAC smolder eyeliner (inner rim)
Clinique Gel Eyeliner in Black
L'Oreal Voluminous Mascara Black
 CHEEKS
MAC Blushbaby
 Benefit Hoola (contour)
Dior Amber Diamond (powder highlight)
LIPS
MAC Prolong Wear Concealer NW25 (cancel out color of lips)
MAC Lipglass Lust

The only makeup that I put on consistently was my MAC lipglass, which lasted only 1-2 hours at the most. My MAC smolder eyeliner in my inner rim completely smudged out & the Clinique gel eyeliner faded its color just a little bit. As for the L'Oreal Mascara, you can see clearly that it did smudge a bit, so be extra careful with this one. The products that seemed to stay put on my face are: MAC foundation, MAC concealer, MAC powder & MAC blush. You can see around my nose area the foundation is completely wiped off, because of my consistent sneezing and nose-wiping throughout the day. All in all I'm quite pleased with how much of my makeup stayed put despite the hustle and bustle of today.
I hope you enjoyed this type of blog entry! :) Any suggestions/questions please let me know! :)

Green Smoke | Makeup Play

Went to a small bachelorette party for my cousin Jenna that consisted of penis candy, bananas, pimp cups & of course cake. I couldn't do anything too drastic like a regular bachelorette party because I felt like I was dying from pneumonia, coughing & blowing my nose every 3.5 seconds. Nonetheless, time spent with family is always a good time... especially if you haven't seen them in awhile.
I decided to do a green smokey eye - which is my ultimate favorite as green always compliments brown eyes. This is what I wore:

MAC Prolong Wear Foundation NC30
Hard Candy Glamouflage Medium (concealer)
MAC Prolong Wear Concealer NW25

Multi-Dimensional | Makeup Play

Today is just a clusterf*ck of blah. Las Vegas got me sick, so I armed myself with Theraflu, Cough Drops and Tea... all coincidentally the same flavor. Also, I'm breaking out from lack of sleep and no amount of Photoshop (even if I don't know how to - you'll see in a minute) can get rid of my pimples. On the good side, I left my dog Jedi out of his cage with no supervision for more than 8 hours today and thankfully no carpet was destroyed :). Since I can't go out, I put some make-up on today for a simple pick me up & I used an eyeshadow that I haven't touched in a very long time.
FACE

MAC Club eyeshadow is multi-dimensional consisting of the colors green, brown & blue. Depending on how you apply it (wet/dry) and where the picture hits, you can see an array of different colors. It's very hard to describe but nonetheless a very good eyeshadow for a smokey eye.
SEE THE PIMPLES?! AGH!!! :p

Review: N.Y.C. Bronze N' Glow

Randomly decided to go to the $1 store near my apartment. The $1 store always packs a good amount of different things, but I was really surprised to find these two goodies at the makeup section. Highlighters are by far my most favorite part of my makeup collection, because it will always make you look more lively and awake. I went to Las Vegas this past weekend and decided to test out these bad boys. Here's the swatches:
Bronze 'n Glow in Hampton Glow (Top: Packed on / Bottom: Sheered out)
Hampton Glow is my favorite of the two, given that is suits my skin tone more. It does pack on some micro glitters but not enough to make you look like a disco ball. the colors border on champagne/gold and it's very sheer but buildable. I have another creme highlight called Jemma Kidd Dewy Glow in Rose Gold that I bought for $30. Here they are next to each other:
Left: Jemma Kidd Dewy Glow in Rose Gold / Right: NYC Bronze N' Glow in Hampton Glow
The colors are very dupe-able but with Hampton Glow you can see small flecks of glitter while Rose Gold is sheer. I still prefer Rose Gold, but Hampton Glow is still quite a steal for only $1.
Bronze 'n Glow in Fire Island Glow (Top: Packed on / Bottom: Sheered out)
Fire Island glow is more of a bronze and on the brown side. It gives the perfect "sunkissed glow" and I can imagine looking like you just spent the whole day relaxing on the beach. I'm assuming for ladies with a darker skin tone, this will look like a brighter highlight as what Hampton Glow provided for my skin.

Hopefully next time you find yourself at the $1 store, don't forget to check out the makeup section! Makeup doesn't have to be super high end to look absolutely gorgeous on skin and these two N.Y.C highlighters are proof of it.
The only picture I can find from this past weekend in Vegas with Hampton Glow very prominent in the picture. (put on my cheekbones and down the bridge of my nose)

Blending at A Gradient

(MAC Soft Brown (pan form) & Urban Decay Naked Palette Naked)
I've been obsessed with makeup ever since I was very young (watching my mom get dolled up) so I know I've had some fair share of mishaps along the way. Tips & techniques I've learned come from a tremendous anount of trial and error, and this trick(?) I'm about to show took me long enough to realize. More often than not (especially clubs & nights out in the town) I see a lot of this going on:
Mostly everyone knows the norm in applying eyeshadow especially smokey eyes: dark on the lid, then highlight on the brow bone. You can admit that there's something odd or different about this picture, such as the lines in between colors are a bit harsh and instead of it looking harmonious, the colors look stacked on. In comes what I like to call the "blending" eyeshadow, typically an eyeshadow that looks very similar to your skin tone applied in between the light and dark colors and blended. When it is blended, the colors appear on a gradient & it is more pleasing to the eye. The two colors that are my HG (holy grail) is MAC's Soft Brown & Urban Decay's Naked.
The difference between the two: Left eye with MAC soft brown & Right eye without the blending color. Hopefully you can spot the difference! :)
close up of my face with the left eye blended & the right eye on its own.
End result: perfectly easy (on-the-eyes) smokey eye!

Hopefully this trick worked out for you (if you didn't already know, of course). If you have any tips or tricks to share with me, please let me know! P.S. sorry about the lighting in my pictures! my bathroom light is so damn harsh!

Till Next Time! :)

Review: La Femme Blushes

Ordered these blushes a few months ago because of the reviews/rave's its been getting from makeup addicts alike. These blushes have over 30 colors and go for $2.50 (pan only) or $3.00 with the casing. Can I just say WOW? They are extremely pigmented, meaning only one swipe with your brush will give a tremendous amount, ALSO meaning that these blushes will last forever. They give me 8 hours of wear time & the consistency is very smooth. Me being the "one is never enough type" I bought a palette for $45, tax and tip including. FYI These blushes look untouched despite my obsession with them because I only tap my brush once.
(Top to Bottom, Left to Right: Peach, Coral Spice, Flamingo Pink, Bordeaux, Dusty Rose, Golden Sunset)
(L-R: Peach, Coral Spice, Flamingo Pink, Bordeaux, Dusty Rose, Golden Sunset)
(Top to Bottom, Left to Right: Purple Passion, Terracotta, Mocha, Indian Rose, Mandarin Red, Cinnabar)
(L-R: Purple Passion, Terracotta, Mocha, Indian Rose, Mandarin Red, Cinnabar)

  1. Peach: Matte color, very good for work, goes well with heavy smokey eyes. Reminds me of MAC Blushbaby.
  2. Coral Spice: Contains shimmer (no disco ball) and is one of my favorites. Comparable to the cult favorite NARS orgasm and is perfect for the summer.
  3. Flamingo Pink: has very cool undertones, more compatible for ladies with a lighter skin tone.
  4. Bordeaux: dominantly brown/purple & perfect for ladies with darker skin tone
  5. Dusty Rose: brown/pink undertones, It's a neutral color on me when lightly dusted, this also will look very good with smokey eyes
  6. Golden Sunset: Also one of my favorites, I imagine this working well with dark red lipstick (haven't tried it yet since it's still summer). Perfect for fall.
  7. Purple Passion: This might not be everyone's cup of tea, but it works great as an eyeshadow. It also works beautiful as blush when you want the focus on your face to be your cheeks. Compliments a nude lip and neutral eyeshadow.
  8. Terracota: this color is my favorite for the summer, it has gold & bronze shimmers.
  9. Mocha: Also compatible for smokey eyes, goes on neutral on ladies with tanned skin and dark pink with ladies who have lighter skin tones.
  10. Indian Rose: a matte, very cool,  rose-pink
  11. Mandarin Red: very bright, cool toned rosy pink as well. Perfect for the summer.
  12. Cinnabar:  Matte/Satin texture, Peach/Cinnamon. This can also  double as a bronzer.
Hopefully these descriptions help! If you end up buying it, let me know how it goes for you :) to purchase these blushes go here:
