Mad Men Inspiration

I was the makeup artist for a photo shoot a couple weeks ago and the theme was 1960's/Mad Men style. We had 6 different models that day, 3 girls and 3 guys, all portraying different themes. It was such an exhausting day but nonetheless very rewarding! I was (and still am) proud of our team and the outcome of the photo shoot! :)

Layers | Makeup Play

For our anniversary the manfriend bought me Inglot eyeshadows as an anniversary gift. Yes, he's the best :) I bought a 20 palette for about $120, which seems like a lot but considering that Inglot eyeshadows are the same size as MAC, (and equally or even MORE pigmented) they only go for $5. Anyway, here's a mix of some colors from my palette:

FACE
Inglot Matte 326 (eyebrows)
Chanel Vitalumiere
MAC Prolong Wear Concealer NW25
MAC Fix+ to set make up
EYES (all eyeshadows from Inglot, otherwise stated)
MAC Painterly Paint Pot (all over eye)
#378 Matte (brown - all over lid)
#372 Matte ( sea blue - crease, lower lid)
#366 Matte (orange - above crease)
Wet n' Wild Brule (browbone)
Clinique Gel Eyeliner in Black
MAC Smolder Eye Kohl (inner rim)
Forever 21 Lashes
Covergirl Lash Blast
 CHEEKS
NYX Taupe blush (contour)
MAC Equilibrium
NYX Bronzer Tango Stix in Lighten (creme highlighter)
LIPS
MAC Prolong Wear Concealer NW25 (cancel out lips)
MAC Kinda Sexy

On another note, it was my first time trying Forever21 eyelashes, and I've got to say, it is the most UNCOMFORTABLE lashes I've ever tried. Granted they are beautiful and cheap ($2.80)... but I couldn't wait to take it off! ugh!

Until Next Time! :)

Weekend in Makeup: 10/21/11-10/23/11

received my official business card (still pinching myself because it feels so weird) on Friday,

Had a photo shoot with 6 gorgeous models that were put in different settings on Saturday,

& was given a "Housewives of New Jersey" makeup theme on Sunday.

Until Next Time! :)

Sally Hansen Insta-Dri "Mauve it"

The name "Mauve It" is actually misleading, because I see this nail polish as a baby pink with shimmer accompanied with champagne colors. It's the perfect "my-boss-won't-give-me-weird-looks-at-work" color. To be quite honest, I have a bit of an aversion to pink and when I put this on I wasn't expecting it to look so "girly." Though it is very girly, I actually grew to love this color because it screams simple and sophisticated.

As always my nails look a little run down because this is after 6 days. Wonderful staying power and little to no chipping in almost a week after constant picking and cleaning will always be great in my book :)

Until Next Time! :)

Weekend In Makeup: 10/14/11-10/16/11

Just like every weekend, it was spent with my loved ones :). Some of the looks/products used this weekend:

Went out with my friends for some great sushi & endless amount of drinks with a purple smokey eye on Friday,

Took out my OCC Lip Tar in Harlot to the Incubus concert in Irvine on Saturday,

& put on a bridal makeup inspired look on my classmate on Sunday.

Until Next Time! :)

Nars California & Nars Night Sun | Makeup Play

Wanted to put these eyeshadows to good use and show how well they mesh together. After I put this on it seemed to resemble Candy Corn, no? California is actually a good color on it's own, when blended out and with black eyeliner it can be worn as a great smokey eye. Adding Night Sun made the look a bit more fun, and who doesn't like fun? :p Here's a breakdown of my look if you're interested:

FACE
ELF eyebrow set Medium
Neutrogena Healthy Foundation 60 Natural Beige
Hard Candy Glamouflage Medium (concealer)

Review: Nars California & Nars Night Sun Eyeshadow

A couple of weeks ago, I tweeted about Sephora having such a great deal on two eyeshadows: NARS California & NARS Night Sun. They were on sale for $8 as opposed to their regular $23, and it would be a slap in the face to the makeup gods if I didn't purchase these two. I immediately ordered them, and the shipment came in today.

NARS California | NARS Night Sun

NARS California is described on the Sephora website as a "molten copper." It has warm, reddish & brown undertones and has a very good color payoff. The swatch on my arm only took one swipe from my finger. The texture is smooth & buttery, but I did see it crumble a little bit when touched with a heavier hand. I can see this color working well on many skin tones especially on darker skinned ladies. This brings out my dark brown eyes wonderfully and is a perfect color for the fall.

NARS Night Sun is described on the Sephora website as a "bright marigold with gold flecks." To me, it is a yellow-gold with very noticeable glitter. I can see how one can be frustrated with this because of all the fall-out. The key for the glitter to stay put is to use a very sticky base and have it foiled. (please see my eyeshadow application tutorial HERE.) Night Sun isn't as smooth as California, as well as the color payoff. It took 3-4 swipes from my finger to get that much color to show. This color is beautiful when worn during a night out on the town, but may be too much for the daytime (depending on your preferences).

All in all, I'm happy with my purchase. $8 is such a good deal, and I can see myself buying California with its original price because of how beautiful it makes my dark brown eyes look. Night Sun, however, is beautiful but not worth the $23 price tag. $8 is all I would pay for this eyeshadow.

NOTE: These two eyeshadows are still on sale! :) Purchase them HERE.

Until Next Time! :)

Sally Hansen Insta- Dri "Mint Sprint"

Before you say anything, I am aware that this really looks like a bad nail job, but I have a purpose for it - I promise :p

Sally Hansen Insta-dri Nail Polish is probably my most favorite type of nail polish, because of how opaque it is after the first swipe. It dries in 1-2 minutes, wonderful for the person "on the go." I can go on only one coat alone, but by force of habit I always do two coats and a top coat. Mint Sprint actually resembles more of a sea green/blue color. I'm a sucker for any green color though and it has just the right "pop."

Here's my purpose for taking a picture of these gritty nails - these are my nails after 6 days. Keep in mind that I'm constantly on a computer 5 days a week, 8 hours a day. It's barely chipping and if you just take glance at it, it still looks brand new. Also, this brand of nail polish isn't as expensive as O.P.I. which runs about $8... I bought this baby for only $4 at Target.

Until Next Time! :)

Weekend in Makeup: 10/7/11-10/9/11

The drone of the week is always made up with an exciting weekend, especially w/ your very best friends. Some of the products I used this weekend:

tried out a concoction of purple eyeshadows that concludes this weird pose for no reason on Friday,

put A really simple look with a pop of OCC Liptar in Grandma while out to dinner and a massive amount of drinks on Saturday,

applied a fall-esque look on my classmate at school on Sunday.

Until Next Time! :)

Review: Occ Lip Tar in Harlot

This blog is definitely new but to anyone who's been reading since the beginning you all know that I am IN LOVE with red lipsticks. There hasn't been a red lipstick that I didn't love, and even if it didn't match my skin tone or made me look deathly ill, I would still try to rock it.

OCC lip tars are by far my most favorite lip products because of their staying power, pigmentation & consistency. Not to mention that they look like lip glosses when first seen, then when put on the lips they dry to a nice satin finish. It is most especially wonderful for makeup artists that love to mix because lip tars are meant to be combined with different colors to produce a new one.

Harlot is no ordinary lip tar, it is very bright with hints of pink & coral and it somehow has small traces of orange on me. It seriously isn't for the faint of heart and it is a very look-at-me color.

Chocolate Chip Pancake Mini Muffin | Sometimes Jowee Cooks

Wow, I feel like I seriously neglected my blog this past week 1/2! I am slapping myself as we speak :( But no worries, I managed to find time & update with 3 new blog entries today! yay! :)

Anyway, the last food porn I did was the boiling crab recipe (did anyone benefit from it btw?) While at work today I came across this website called Kirbie's Cravings, which is a wonderful blog filled w/ LOTS of delicious recipe's! I managed to become obsessed with THIS RECIPE.

It is so wonderfully yummy! and super easy to do! Be careful though because you might pop so many of these in your mouth you won't even realize it! :p

Information from Kirbie's Cravings Website:

Ingredients: (makes about 18 mini cupcakes)
1 cup of Bisquick
1 Egg
1/2 Cup Milk
1/2 Cup Mini Chocolate Chips
Syrup (optional)

Directions:
  1.  Grease mini muffin pan with spray & preheat oven to 350F
  2.  In a large glass bowl, mix bisquick, egg & milk with a large spoon. Batter should still have some lumps remaining.
  3. Pour batter into muffin molds, about 2/3 full. Scatter a few mini chocolate chips on top of each filled muffin mold.
  4. Bake for 10-15 minutes until toothpick insert comes out clean. (I let it bake for only 10 minutes)
  5. Let cool for a couple minutes then serve! :)

Makeup Inspiration: Angelina Jolie in Wanted

Just to preface before I go on, I am DEFINITELY not saying I look like her at all.
