Five Product Favorites in One Makeup Look

I have an abundance of makeup that I love and play with it whenever I have the time (who are we kidding? I always make time) but there are only a few that I stand by through and through. Although I might buy more products within the same category and dabble a little here and there in other things, I always come back to "old faithful." If I ever blog about my makeup stash, take a good look at the products with worn in containers, dirty fingerprints and broken makeup caps... it's these makeup products.

As I grow older I become more loyal to products that I can use a multitude of ways, nothing too loud or jarring, nothing too complex. Akin to a crisp white button down or a nice pair of jeans, it will always remain in style and in rotation.

Weekend in Makeup: 1/24/14-1/26/14

HAPPPPPPPY MONDAY! I know it's Monday so you can look at today with two options: "Crap, I miss the weekend," or "YAY! A fresh start!" I'm trying really hard to get into the latter one because this weekend was pretty eventful! Some makeup-y things I managed to do over the weekend:
Did a baby haul at CVS. Trying out these individual falsies, L'Oreal's Miracle Blur primer & restocked on the best lash glue in the whole entire world (better than DUO!) on Friday...

Upside Down Smokey Eye | HOW TO

Hooded Eye Girls/Boys rejoice! In my last post I had expressed towards the end that having hooded eyes AND having it uneven has been a struggle when it comes to wanting to make pretty eye looks but the end result isn't as I had imagined.

Since everyone has a lower lash line, this quick and easy makeup trick can make you look sexy and sultry in a pinch. It's one of my favorite looks too because you can use any eyeshadow color and it can be as simple or as dramatic as you want it to be.

Some key things in an Upside Down Smokey Eye:

  • Basically everything is reversed, so the top/upper eyelid is very simple, usually just a wash of color and maybe a little definition in the crease. With this look I used a combination of Buzz and Dust (Naked 3 palette) over my entire lid and a wash of Naked (Naked 1 palette) in my crease while the lower lash line is severely smoked out.
  • Pick an eyeliner color of your choice making sure to concentrate it on the waterline and lower lash line. I would go for pencil or gel eyeliner just because it's easier to blend out and liquid eyeliner may not budge at all.
  • Blend the eyeliner with a pencil or smudge brush with an eyeshadow color of your choice -- I would choose a color that's nearly the same as the eyeliner or anything within the same color family...but to each their own!
  • Keep blending and blending, when you think you've blended enough...blend some more. Make sure though to keep the color on the lower lash line and waterline strong.
  • Make sure that you took the necessary steps to conceal and brighten your under eye area so it looks like you don't have a black eye.
  • For me personally, I usually keep the other areas of my face fairly nude and simple (lips & cheeks) and the same goes for here too...but again, to each their own (a dark red lip I think would actually look great with this).
  • I wanted to keep mine fairly simple here but false lashes would be great to open up your eyes!
  • Play around with different colors! Purple & Cranberry would look great with any eye color!
  • Have fun with it!

Obviously this might not be everyone's cup of tea because when done wrong it can borderline look like a black eye but make up is fun and you should try it! It's seriously a sexy and sultry look and so easy to do! Just remember to keep blending! Hope this helps!

Until Next Time! :)

"Can Do This With My Eyes Closed" Go To Glam Look | Makeup Play

FIRST, please excuse the background. After I took these pictures I couldn't believe how ugly it was from the clothes on the floor next to the mirror in addition to the pillows on the floor. Why is everything on the floor? Please be patient with me while I come up with a new and prettier background.

Obviously this is a glam look but you can't really get the "feel" of it because 1.) it's daylight, and 2.) I would not be able to get the sultry & sexy feel without any awesome filters and that is the #1 no-no in any of the photos on my blog: photoshop.

Anyway, I had posted a blurry and ugly version of these photos a couple posts back HERE. Towards the end of the post I expressed that I should do a clearer version of the look just in case someone was interested.

I have a deep love affair with the Naked 1 Palette because of how wearable the shades are and how it goes so well with my skin tone. I have always been such a sucker for bronzes and golds -- maybe it's because I've always been trying to achieve (but never even have come close to) the "J-Lo Glow." I like looking like I spent time in the Bahamas even though I'm scared shitless of the sun (that's another story).
I had posted in the blurry/previous post what I was wearing but I'll include here again:

FACE
Embryolisse Lait Creme & Josie Maran Argan Oil - Moisturizer
Benefit Porefessional (primer - T-zone)
Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer (primer - rest of face)
Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector - Pearl
Makeup Forever HD Foundation - 123

UNDER EYES
Smashbox Hydrating Eye Primer
Benefit Erase Paste - Medium
Maybelline Instant Age Rewinder - Light
Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder & Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Luminous Light(set the under eye concealer)

EYEBROWS
  MAC Brow Pencil - Spiked
Tarte Amazonian Brow Mousse - Soft Brown

EYES - All Naked 1 Palette (unless stated)
MAC Paint Pot - Soft Ochre (primer)
Smog(inner and outer corner of lid, lower lash line)
Half Baked (middle lid, lower lash line)
  Naked (orbital bone)
Buck(crease, lower lash line)
Darkhorse(outer v blended into crease)
Wet N' Wild Brûlée - (browbone)
Creep (upper lashline)
Prestige Black Eyeliner (waterline)
Tarte Lights, Camera, Flashes Mascara
Red Cherry Lashes #43

CHEEKS
Sonia Kashuk Creme Bronzer #2(to bronze outside of my face)
MAC Warm Soul Blush
Dior Amber Diamond Highlighter

LIPS
Vaseline Lip Therapy
NARS Dolce Vita Lipstick Mixed with Urban Decay Native Lipstick

So guys, let's talk about the uneveness of my lashes going on in this picture. Other than having hooded eyes, I ALSO have uneven eyelids, so the right side is smaller and also folds down a little bit more. It's been difficult for me to do makeup looks, wear false eyelashes AND have it even all the time while struggling not to rub my eyes out and do it all over again. More importantly through all that mess I just said fuck this, you have to love what you got. I had the choice to stress myself out by making sure everything was completely even or enjoying the process of getting ready and playing with colors and makeup. I chose the latter.

Until Next Time! :)

Weekend in Makeup 1/17/14-1/19/14

I know I've made this series a long time ago and I know I've failed MISERABLY updating every month. Since I promised myself that I'll be more diligent in updating my blog, this time around I'll be much better...I promise! By the way, can you guys believe that my last Weekend in Makeup was over a year ago? :(

Went to Downtown Disney with the boyfriend on Friday wearing this "glowy" makeup look. I tried making a new post about it but I failed horribly. I would have had to douse water on myself for the camera to catch just how "glowy" it was.

Wore my go-to glam look to my best friends dirty 30 on Saturday...

& became severely frustrated over another blog post on Sunday.

Until Next Time! :)

Drab to Fab with only 5 makeup products | HOW TO

I see makeup as an escape but for the most part I'm bare faced more days in the week than not. I have no problem going to the mall or doing errands without makeup and will probably continue to do so for the rest of my life. I can chuck it up to probably part being lazy & part loving sleep more than anything, but there are days when I tell myself "ok, gotta look presentable today."

I thought it would be fun to see how I would be able to look put together with only 5 products from my whole stash. It's a lot to do with focus on glowy skin, playing up the eyes a little bit to look more awake and making sure I don't look one dimensional by adding blush to the apple of my cheeks.

MY 5 PRODUCT FACE (CLOCKWISE FROM TOP):
Benefit Erase Paste - Corrector/Concealer
Bobbi Brown Extra Repair Foundation SPF 25 - 4.25
MAC Casual Colour Lip & Cheek Colours (LE) - Out For Fun
Tarte Amazonian Brow Mousse Soft Brown - Eyebrow
Tarte Camera, Light, Flashes Mascara in Black

I first dabbed on my Bobbi Brown Extra Repair Foundation in 4.25 w/ my Real Techniques Complexion Sponge (Beauty Blender dupe) for a light glowy base. I love this foundation for how hydrating it is and how it doesn't exaggerate my dry skin. I think it's important if you're doing a very minimal look to have a light base on so it doesn't cover all your skin -- heavy foundation makes your face look very flat and one-sided. Next, I added Benefit Erase Paste for my under eye circles, because not only it corrects but covers very well. It has a peach tinge to it so after I conceal, I dab the foundation again on my under eye so it all blends in seamlessly. I then use my MAC Casual Colour Lip & Cheek Colours in Out For Fun unto the apples of my cheeks & lips to give me a fresh pop of color. I realize these are LE (Limited Edition) so the next best thing if I didn't have this would be a lipstick and use that as a cream blush and as a pop of color to the lips(double duty!). Next, I fill in my brows with Tarte Amazonian Brow Mousse in Soft Brown - I CAN NOT live without this stuff! It is so amazing! Then finally I add the Tarte Camera, Light, Flashes Mascara to give me a good amount of volume and length to my baby lashes.

I hope this post was helpful! It's such an easy makeup look and makes you think twice if you really NEED all that makeup. (Obvs we do! haha!)

What 5 products do you use to make you look from "Drab to Fab?"

Until Next Time! :)

100mph | Makeup Play

Celebrated my best friend's birthday last night but I was in such a hurry I didn't have time to document the look in my fancy pansy SLR. To top it off the boyfriend was driving 100mph so I could not for the life of me get a decent shot without it being blurry! But I digress...

This is my go to glam look when I don't know what to wear and I'm pressed for time. All the eyeshadows are from my favorite palette in the world (Naked 1 Palette) and one skin tone eyeshadow for my brow bone. I think sometime this week I'll recreate this look so the colors are more vivid and the pictures are a lot clearer.

Snap, Crackle, Pop | Makeup Play

This is going to be a short post of a look from eyeshadows that I purchased from this haul HERE. They're all the colors that I bought from the L'Oreal Infallible Eyeshadow line. They're fairly new and thankfully permanent but if you don't see them in the stores right away it's because some places might not have it on display yet. True story: I made a 23 mile trek to get these eyeshadows. Is that called dedication? obsessive? borderline nuts?

Whatever the case may be, these are definitely beautiful eyeshadows, my favorite being Burst into Bloom (which is the POP that's in the inner corner of my eye.)

I opted out of the eyeliner because I have such hooded eyes a small thin line would probably cover my entire 'mobile lid' and I wanted to keep the silver-pink visible as much as possible.

FACE
Embryolisse Lait Creme & Josie Maran Argan Oil - Moisturizer
Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector - Pearl
YSL Touche Eclat Foundation B40

UNDER EYES

The Best $2 I've Ever Spent On Makeup

I love ELF. I think they have some amazing products that are comparable to higher end cosmetics and they always have really great deals. I've been lucky with the products that I have purchased from them but who knew that my HOLY GRAIL lip product would only be $2? It goes to show how money equal quality.

I love this product so much because it's so easy and so comfortable. It hydrates like a great lip balm, makes your lips look more plump and full because of the glossy sheen and adds a rosy tint that's not too offensive and in-your-face. I love this product because it brightens up my complexion no matter what makeup I'm wearing and it's also a true testament when a product can liven up how you look even when you're completely bare faced.
Nothing on my lips
ELF Lip Balm Tint in Berry
ELF Lip Balm Tint in Berry (different lighting situations - iPhone 5)

P.S: Can you believe how much my under eye area is creasing on the first and second picture? I was trying out the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder as an under eye setter but it failed horribly!! These are the only pictures too that wonderfully captured how pretty the Elf Lip Balm Tint is. Ugh! Another point being that money equal quality.

You can purchase the ELF Lip Balm Tint HERE.

Do you have any Holy Grail items for cheap?

Walgreens/Ulta/Sephora Haul | HAUL

Aside from makeup looks, hauls are my favorite type of blog post just because it's reminiscent of a kid in a candy store... look at all the pretty things! Lets be honest though, I still feel like a kid when I'm at the candy store-- but that's just because I have a very huge sweet tooth.

I don't know how long it took me to accumulate these but I admit that this haul in it's entirety is quite expensive (I'm looking at you, YSL). If you notice, a lot of them are doubles of the same product but just different colors. I'm a sucker for buying things over and over if it's a style and/or formula that I like.

Urban Decay Revolution Lipsticks: F-Bomb & Shame
I already have the color "Native" and it's quickly becoming one of my favorite pinky nudes for smokey eyes. The consistency of these lip products are very good... pigmented, easy to swipe and hydrating on the lips.
L'Oreal Infallible eyeshadows (clockwise): Burst into Bloom, Always Pearly Pink, Purple Priority
L'oreal's infallible eye-shadows are hands down my favorite favorite eye-shadows in the drugstore market. They're extremely soft & buttery, glides on effortlessly and very pigmented. If you use it wet (see my primer post HERE to know what I mean by wet) then they become even more vibrant.
Wet N' Wild Color Icon Eyeshadow in Panther & Brulee, Prestige Mascara in Blackest Black
True Story: I have so much makeup that I RARELY hit pan on anything and Brulee is the only eyeshadow I've ever hit pan on. It is extremely versatile and I can use it as a matte brow highlight or an overall wash of color. I chose to pick up panther because I really don't have a black eyeshadow and if the texture is the same as Brulee's then i'm sold! I haven't tried the Prestige Mascara yet but I've heard that it really volumizes... God knows my thin, baby eyelashes need some vavoom!
Japonesque Velvet Touch Blush #3
Japonesque released a new makeup line not to long ago so while I was browsing around Ulta I swatched some of their products. This called out to me because it reminds me of Orgasm by NARS but without the heavy glitter. This blush is so beautiful, soft & luminous -- I'm going to have to write an in-depth review on this one. You can see it in action in my previous post HERE
Wet N' Wild Megaslick Balm Stain Moisturizing Lip Color: Red-dy or Not & Lady and the Vamp
I haven't tried these yet and they were only $1.99 at my local Walgreens.. who can resist that? I'm gonna try and see if these are similar to the Revlon & Maybelline balm stains...stay tuned!
YSL Rouge Volupte #12(Forbidden Burgundy), #1(Nude Beige), #17(Red Muse), #11(Rose Culte)
Ok, my obsession with these have become extremely unhealthy because they are so expensive -- but they are hands down my most favorite favorite lipstick formula in the whole entire world. To be completely honest the Urban Decay Revolution lipsticks are creamy and easy to apply, but after applying these The Revolution Lipstick's felt like it glided like bricks. Not to say they aren't great because they are -- but these YSL lipsticks glide like butter (I say that so often, huh?) and are SO OPAQUE in one swipe on the lips. Bonus: They smell like mango! Yum! I'll have a more in depth review on this one as well as how it looks on the lips hopefully sometime soon.
L-R: YSL Rouge Volupte #1(Nude Beige), #17(Red Muse), #11(Rose Culte), #12(Forbidden Burgundy) & Urban Decay Revolution Lipsticks: F-Bomb & Shame
L-R: Wet N' Wild Megaslick Balm Stain Moisturizing Lip Color: Red-dy or Not & Lady and the Vamp, Kardashian Beauty Joystick Lip Lacquer: Shocking Pink (sorry I forgot to take a seperate picture of this! will post a review soon with the other colors I have!), Japonesque Velvet Touch Blush #3, Wet N' Wild Color Icon Eyeshadow in Panther & Brulee, L'Oreal Infallible eyeshadows: Burst into Boom, Purple Priority & Always Pearly Pink.

Do any of these products and/or swatches interest you?

Until Next Time! :)
